Little Things – Do It In a Day or Less
Explore Kirkland: Wander around downtown Kirkland and you’ll find
lots of cute shops, tasty food, and pretty waterfront parks. You can see a lot by foot, and guests of The
Woodmark can rent a bike to cruise along the
shore.
Go Downtown: Visit the iconic Space Needle, Chihuly Garden & Glass Museum, the Pop Art
Museum, Pike Place Market, and other attractions. If you plan to visit two or more of these places, we
recommend getting a City Pass. This will get you access to 5
attractions at a good price.
Get Out on the Water: Go for a swim at Houghton Beach or rent a paddleboard or kayak at Marina Park.
The Woodmark Hotel also rents these items out along
with jet skis and boats.
Pregame at the Wineries: Seattle is known for its coffee and craft breweries, but it also
has some amazing wineries in Woodinville, including
Chateau Ste. Michelle. You might need to reserve a spot ahead of time if you want a tasting.
Go Whale Watching: Venture out to sea and discover whales and Orcas with one of these many
tour options. Washington has some of the best whale watching in the U.S., and August is a great time to
see “The Southern Residents,” a pod of Orcas that visits this area every summer.
Hike the Pacific Northwest: Explore some of the beauty of the Pacific Northwest through
hikes like Snoqualmie Falls (easy - and you can get lunch after at
Salish Lodge), Rattlesnake
Ledge (moderate), Wallace Falls
(moderate), and Mount Si (hard - though check out
Little Si for a moderate version). You will need a car to get to any of these hikes.
Big Things – Do It In a Day or More
Visit a National Park: Seattle is surrounded by 3 beautiful national parks: Mount Rainier, Olympic, and The
North Cascades. Each park is a 2-3 hour drive from Kirkland, so you could visit one as a day trip or
spend a night or two in the area. There are hikes for all ages and skill levels. Reserve camping spots in
the winter or spring because they fill up quickly.
Take a Trip to Canada: Vancouver, BC has delicious food, beautiful views, and easy access to
nature. It’s less than 3 hours away by car and 4 hours by The
Amtrak Cascades train, which is said to be one
of the prettiest railways in North America.
Travel to Portland, Oregon: This city is known for its quirky vibes and relaxed atmosphere.
The trip is about 2.5 hours by car and 3.5 hours by train. If you like Seattle but wish it were weirder, go
to one of the many eclectic bars
and shops in Portland.
